Strong Start 2020

Superintendent’s Reopening Message

How quickly time is flying after the abrupt end to the 2019-20 school year.  No one was  prepared for the challenges of this global pandemic.  However, you rallied together at the onset of the pandemic and exhibited quick flexibility and adaptability as we transitioned to distance learning and home meal deliveries.  Thank you all for your true level of grit that was both inspiring and uplifting.

Now, our attention has shifted to the work of finalizing plans for a delayed reopening of the 2020-21 school year for students on Monday, August 17, 2020. In order to open schools, we are following the guidance of the Louisiana Department of Education and health care leaders as much as possible.  Two most critical issues are restoring effective teaching and learning and providing safety measures to protect students and employees. The Phase 2 reopening plan was presented to the Iberia Parish School Board on July 8, 2020.  Because of the state of uncertainty, the plan is subject to change. Currently, the plan provides a choice for parents.  Students from grades K - 12 may choose a full virtual option with teacher monitoring.  However, we highly recommend that children in grades K - 2 attend face-to-face to ensure the establishment of foundational reading skills.  Another choice for elementary students is a face-to-face option with students remaining in static groups during the day.  Middle and high school students may choose the hybrid option of attending two days per week face-to-face and three days virtually with teacher access.  The selected choice will have to remain in place until the next grading period changes.  Parents are asked to complete the Enrollment Intent Form to make the selections for their children by Friday, July 17, 2020.

Additionally, we have updated our website with a new link called Iberia Strong Start 2020.  It will be updated to provide the most accurate information about school reopening including a FAQ section.  Click here to submit a question.

Thank you for your continued partnership in helping us keep our schools and our children safe and healthy as we navigate a reality that none of us could have ever imagined. Please stay safe and enjoy the rest of the summer.
